It’s hard enough picking out outfits for a date, or interview, or girls night out. On the bright side, you don’t have to worry about anyone else showing up in the same outfit! Things are about to get a lot easier for you. There is no ‘correct’ boudoir outfit. Boudoir photography is all about feeling like the best you. Traditionally, shoots are done in lingerie, but there are so many other ways to show your strength, beauty, and femininity!
Do I Have To Wear Lingerie at a Boudoir Session?
Nope! I strongly suggest you bring it though. There are so many options for outfits you can feel sexy in! Maybe it’s in your dance clothes, or you’re into cosplay, or that red cocktail dress makes you feel like you’re on top of the world. Those are all great choices. Jeans and a bra, or jeans and a tank top are also great! The idea is for you to feel good in your skin. Embrace your femininity!
What Kind of Lingerie Should I Wear?
When it comes to choosing lingerie for your boudoir session, I recommend considering a few factors. I have teamed up with a couple AMAZING boutiques in the Bay Area to help you get the perfect fit and style. This is what to look for, and then I’ll give you suggestions on where to go.
- Cut and style. Some body types are complimented by a high waist, others by a plunging neck line. Every woman is different. This is why I recommend going somewhere where the staff is trained to help you find what fits.
- The fit. This is probably the most important. Choosing the garments that fit you perfectly will make the most difference in your photos, and the way you feel in your clothes. When straps are too tight, they pinch and make skin look bulgy. I don’t know anyone who wants to look bulgy. Plus, it’s uncomfortable. On the flip side, when things are too big, they look baggy, and that’s not flattering for anyone! Going to a legitimate lingerie boutique and getting properly fitted will make a huge difference.
- Material. Satin and certain shiny materials don’t photograph as well as others. Some sheer fabrics also look weird when photographed. This is why I suggest bringing more than you think you’ll need for the shoot. I’ll help you pick the best outfits before we start shooting.
- Coverage. This is entirely up to you! And your view is allowed to change. Some women start the shoot in jeans a t shirt, while some want to go topless right away for a more risqué look. Whatever you feel comfortable with is perfect.
- Choosing the right order. I loooooove corsets. They’re my favorite! We have to save those for the end though because they leave lines on the skin. Other tight or strappy garments can do the same. For this reason, I’ll help you pick the best order for your outfits during your empowering boudoir session.
